It all started around one hundred years ago, an explorer and his team set off from New York in search of new lands to claim in America's name. Of course, they did exactly that. In the very centre of the Atlantic Ocean they came across that sole piece of land they had been looking to claim as their own. They climbed ashore and staked a flag into the golden sands. Happy of their achievement, the men drank until dawn, literally. The months passed and the island was named Gray Island - this name would be lost in time and the island would be unknow to all once again. More inhabitants came to the new land to start a new life. Soon, in the center of the island a small city started to arise. All seemed peaceful and serene. But of course, like all tales, nothing ever stays that way.
In the years that followed people began disappearing for days on end; some never even returned. This mystery was shrouded in suspicion. A lot of the islands inhabitants began to feel as though there every move was being watched by someone... or perhaps something. Questions were forced out: What's happening?; Where did my husband go?; Has my daughter been kidnapped? To just name a few. The years passed more quickly, or so it seemed, now. Everyone banded together to try and work out what exactly was happening. Nothing turned up. The residents of the island began to fizzle out, until there were only a few remaining. This was the final straw something bad was going on and they just didn't know what. So, on the 13th October 1950, during the peak of the lunar cycle, the remainder tried to leave the island. However, they were not to reach their homeland; and all perished beneath the waves that were ravishing the shore.
Now, our story begins...
In the summer of 2007, a teenage girl named Ava and a group of 4 of her girlfriends decided that for a holiday they would travel the world; them and along with hundreds of other 16 to 30 year olds whom had the same idea. The cruise liner left the port and everything got off to a bang. Of course, having a ship full of young people there's going to be many a party; and to celebrate their freedom from their everyday lives, a huge party, one of many to come, started aboard the liner.
However, this atmosphere was to change dramatically, in a split second. Nobody knew how much this change would turn everyone's lives upside down...
After just passing the halfway point through the Atlantic Ocean the ship hit a reef. The metal of the ship screeched as huge tears and punctures were created in the bottom and sides. How could they have missed this on the map? There was nothing there. Nothing on the radar or sonar equipment. Everything was clear. But it was too late for that now. The liner slowly filled with water. The crew tried to call for aid, but the comms devices were out of range, or something was preventing them from working. As the cruise liner began to sink further and further, still moving forward at a slow pace, people franctically tried to get off the ship. Some people became trapped underneath the water's surface. These included all four of Ava's friends. Of course, she tried to help them, but as the ship seemingly hit another snag, Ava was thrown backward and took a blow to the head. Now knocked unconscious, a passing escapee, Grayson Adams, spotted her. By this time Ava's friends had all been consumed by the water. Grayson pulled Ava over his shoulder, after realising she was still alive, and stumbled to the deck of the ship. He was met with his friend Skylar Mendez. His ears beating with his heart, he couldn't make out what Skye was saying but her hand was pointing out over to the right of the ship. His eyes followed her arm and out over the ocean. An island. They were saved.
They'd lost many and the circumstances hadn't really hit anyone just quite yet. Though the raw emotion would soon surface in the days to come. As the days passed, Ava and the injured, were watched over. Grayson and Skye took care of Ava mostly. However, one young man named Jack Whittaker had also offered his help. After a day or so, Ava came to. Something was different about her though, she seemed dazed and didn't remember a thing about what she had gone through. It was explained to her that her friends were gone and she reacted like any other human being would. However, they were ubruptly awakened the next morning by screams, it was Ava. She started getting extreme nightmares of some sort of dark creature attacking the survivors of the wreckage. She could feel it's lust for blood, it's hunger and it's loneliness.
As people split off into groups to search the island, they found that the island had a huge built up area at it's centre. There were small skyscrapers even. A new hope in the hearts, that wasn't to last, they soon discovered that the city was deserted. Electricity flickered on and off at various times and all communication devices, such as phones, stated that they were out of range. With no communications how were they to ever get home?
Over the next month, the survivors noticed that during the new moon of the lunar cycle, the waves became extremely violent and dangerous. This was never seen anywhere before. It was like something didn't want them to leave the island at this time. Nothing seemed to make sense at all anymore, and as people began to disappear for days on end and then reappear days later not knowing what had happened to them. These people had changed deep down inside, they became much more aggressive, especially during the days that built up to the new moon.
Could the answer to these questions, and the truth, lie within the water, or would everything fade away underneath the Raging Tides?
